The Carolina Crankers and Bass Monkey Academy are proud to announce our partnership with Gander Outdoors! Gander Outdoors has stepped forward as our title sponsor and the Monroe location has become the new home of Bass Monkey Academy! Look for great things as we work together on the water and in our communities!
Bass Monkey Academy High School Open Lake Norman
Never underestimate the dedication of our young anglers. The passion and "never give up" attitude is alive and well in each of them. After one young man loses traction at the trolling prop, he fashions a makeshift prop pin with a nail weight from his tacklebox. He never gave up and hammered those swells all day. When a second teams' starter grinds to a halt by sunrise, they back the trailer down, drop the trolling motor and attack the winds head-on! The loss of the main motor would send almost all of us to the house in today's conditions. Fresh off a cold front and battered with heavy winds and rolling whitecaps, Lake Norman punished our young anglers in The Bass Monkey Academy High School Open. Tough conditions, even for veteran anglers weren't enough to slow down these young men and women today. Several limits made it to the scales and all teams had fish for weigh-ins. With today's strongest sack, Austin Wikes and Hunter Alexander took home first place in our Senior Division with 9lbs. and 12ozs. Topping out our Junior Division, Kade and Grant Sturgill knocked out a five fish limit weighing 6lbs. and 4ozs. Aaron Shumaker and Dalton Eury grabbed second place with a "spotted" limit of 7lbs. and 12ozs. Congratulations to Logan and Jay for winning today's big fish pot with a 2lb. 12oz. largemouth. Great job out there today everyone! After weigh-ins, we all enjoyed the perfect lunch with fresh grilled hotdogs, coleslaw, chips and homemade cookies! Yes, if you notice the missing cookies, I'm enjoying them right now! Thank you to each of you that sent food and helped cook and prepare for our tournament. Our young anglers and us "old folks" had a great time hanging out with Pro Hank Cherry this afternoon! Thank you so much for sharing your time and your experience with our young anglers! Jeff Queen stopped by and dropped off Queen's Tackle hats and goodies to share with everybody! We can't possibly thank you enough Jeff! Brian Souza with Bizz Baits made a special trip to bring each of our youth new baits and to share a Huge fishing package with a very deserving young member of Bass Monkey Academy! Thank you Brian!!! Lisa and I would like to express our extreme gratitude and thanks to each of our sponsors. Bass Monkey Academy is only the tip of the iceberg. We have the best sponsors in the industry supporting our young anglers every step of the way. Thank you Gander Outdoors for the wonderful prize packs and rod and reel combos for today's tournament! We are proud to partner with such a great company! We would also like to thank each of our awesome elite sponsors, Queen's Tackle, Bizz Baits, Linecutterz, Lews, Caraway Creek Custom Baits, Strike King, Cal Coast Fishing and The Carolina Crankers. We invite all high school anglers ages 8 to 18 to join Bass Monkey Academy as we launch a new 5 tournament Major League format beginning July 27th on Badin Lake! Tournament guidelines and rules to come! Until then... keep 'em hooked!!!
NC SAF / Bass Monkey Academy High School Open
Only four short weeks ago, Bass Monkey Academy and The NC Student Angler Federation teamed up to announce a wonderful opportunity for student anglers. In an effort to share the tournament experience with young anglers, the decision was made to create an "open event" for all North Carolina youth teams. For the first time, any youth angler could compete as equals with or without Federation membership. Teams competed for awesome prize packages from both Bass Monkey Academy and The NC Student Angler Federation! Governed by all Federation rules and bylaws for our first open, federated teams were awarded qualifying points towards the NC state tournament trail. Although temperatures this past week soared near 80 degrees, the typical late week cold front slammed the Piedmont area driving blast-off temps into the low 30's. On the waters of High Rock Lake, the winds churned at 10 to 15mph eating trolling batteries and pushing teams into protected pockets and creeks. Fighting the winds on the main was dicey at best and kept anglers away from mid lake structure and open water fishing. Exhausted from conditions and driving winds, teams filed in for the 3pm weigh-in. Many teams finished the day empty handed as only four teams made weigh-in. Rising to the top of today's open event, Carson Palmer and Harrison McCall sacked four bass weighing 10lbs. and 8ozs. Coming home with second, Hunter Alexander and Austin Wikes brought in two for 8lbs. and 14ozs. anchored with today's Big Fish of 6lbs. and 4ozs. Third place went to Hunter White and Garett Smith with a solo lunker weighing 5lbs. and 14ozs. Great job everybody! Thank you to all of our NC High School Anglers that made the trip to High Rock today! Bass Monkey Academy sends a huge Thank You to our title sponsor and partner Gander Outdoors for your continued support of our young anglers! We would also like to thank each of our sponsors and anonymous donors that make Bass Monkey Academy a pathway into competitive bass fishing! We invite all youth teams from North Carolina to join us on April 20th as we hold a Bass Monkey Academy North Carolina Open on Lake Norman! $25 per youth with standard team format and chaperone. Cash and prizes from Bass Monkey Academy sponsors and Gander Outdoors will be awarded at weigh-in! Blast-off is at 7am from Beattie's Ford Ramp. Until then... keep 'em hooked!!!

Bass Monkey Academy Classic 2018!
It was a beautiful overcast blast-off this morning as Bass Monkey Academy's Union County division hit Lake Twitty for the 2018 Classic. We had them up early today but they were so excited to get a chance for an early bite. Academy members put their skills and confidence on the line today against the most pressured fish in the county. After a great four hour tournament, our young anglers lined up to hit the scales. Holding a big ole 4lbs. and 12ozs. bucket, Malakai Mckinney grabbed first place today with a 5lbs. and 12ozs. total weight. Enjoying his day off work from Gander Outdoors in Monroe, Bryce Crooke took second place with 1lbs. and 6ozs. Heading home today with third place was Trey Simpson with 1lbs. and 2ozs. Our top finishers took home cash and awesome prize packs from Gander Outdoors of Monroe, We sent them home with rod and reel packages, gift cards, tackle boxes and today's hottest tackle. Huge thank you to our partner Gander Outdoors for your continued support of Bass Monkey Academy! Bass Monkey Academy founder Lisa Snyder May rose to the top in today's chaperone challenge. Lisa landed a 3lbs. and 12ozs. chunk and donated her prize pack back to our youth anglers. Look for our multi-division Bass Monkey Tournaments this February as we head to High Rock Lake. Check out Bass Monkey at our next class on August 28th. We will be pitching and flipping at Gander Outdoors of Monroe starting at 7pm. Until then... keep 'em hooked!!!

Jonathan Mcgeetook big fish for the boat captains with 3.5 lb with Brad Staley right behind him with 3.2 Even though it wasn't the biggest catches and no big bags these kids had fun and the parents were great! Monkey Business!!!
Tournament time with Bass Monkey Academy! Looking across the water this morning at our young anglers and chaperones I saw more than just smiling faces and dedication. I saw a family, my family! Lisa and I started the academy to share our passion for fishing and our devotion to the sport, what we have received in return, we can never repay. From great friends and incredible sponsors, the support for these young anglers is unstoppable! The drive and commitment they each share is contagious! Today was academy members' first opportunity to compete head to head on the lake. Patience was key today on Lake Monroe and Kane Saylor cashed in on his first tournament win with a shakey head. Check out that photo! Posing like a pro! Zach Secrest grabbed second place and after a very tough day on the water, we drew for third. Chaperones had a single fish shootout with Shane Hodges taking home top honors. Bass Monkey Academy sends a huge thank you to Gander Outdoors Monroe for the rod and reel combos and tackle bags donated for today's top finishers! Thank you Tommy Perkins, Mad Lab Fishing, Linecutterz, Cal Coast Fishing and Abu Garcia for "stuffing" today's winning tackle bags! Most importantly, Bass Monkey Academy thanks our incredible chaperones that devoted their time, their gas, their knowledge and their boats to make today's tournament possible! Thank you to an outstanding friend from our fishing community, Shane Hodges! Shane donated several well- maintained rod and reel combos and a 50 gallon container full of tackle to Bass Monkey Academy members! Thank you Shane!! Join Bass Monkey Academy at Gander Outdoors of Monroe on June 12th. The academy will be "Fishing For Conditions" from 7:00 to 8:30pm. Until then... keep 'em hooked!!!

Froggin' With Megan O'Neill
Bass Monkey Academy got "froggy" this week as our very first academy member, Megan O'Neill shared her passion and prowess with topwater frog baits. An established and skilled young angler, Megan is known for her abilities with frogs as her goto bait. Academy members experienced first hand proper techniques and equipment for being successful with hollow bodied as well as solid poured frogs and toads. After the seminar, Bass Monkey Academy members hit the water to try out their new skills with various frogs donated by our wonderful sponsors! Unfortunately pond time was cut short as lightening moved in on our young anglers. Great job tonight Megan! We look forward to your next seminar! Thank You to all our members that braved the storms for tonight's class. Catch everyone at the pond on May 8th as we crank things up with "Power Fishing #101" Until then... keep 'em hooked!!!
Tournament Time With The Carolina Crankers and Bass Monkey Academy
Spawn Class with Tommy Streeter
Bass Monkey Academy welcomes back Tommy Streeter and class is in session! Thank you Tommy for sharing your tips and secrets with our young anglers. We took it to the skinny water tonight as Tommy gave our academy members a crash course on the spawn and bedding bass. From hitting every corner of their bed to dealing with the bull bass lurking in the shadows, Tommy shared critical knowledge to help our anglers become successful during the spawn.

Crankbait Class with Jonathan Cook and Rodney May
Class is in session. Talking about my favorite baits tonight. Too bad its not summer time, it would have made a great pond class! Jonathan Cook shares his techniques and special tricks with square bills and shallow runners. For most of our Bass Monkey Academy members, shallow cranking is right in their wheelhouse for pond hopping. Make long parallel casts with the banks with Spro square bills and try out Mann's Baby 1 minus from Walmart to wake a few lunkers at your local pond. To knock 'em out in the basement, Rodney explained the benefits and tricks to deep water cranking and the lost art of deep cranks in skinny waters and heavy cover.
JerkBait Class / Rod and Reel Uses and Maintenance January 30th 7:00-8:30pm Mint Hill Cabinet Shop
Bass Monkey Academy Instructor Tommy Perkins will share his tricks and techniques for fishing jerkbaits with our young anglers. In lieu of our directors' upcoming vacation, We will combine our rod and reel maintenance class scheduled for February 13th at the same time. All young anglers are welcome to join us at Bass Monkey Academy anytime!!!
Only one week after the Alabama Rig Class!!! We told you how dangerous these rigs can be! That's over $1,000 and you can order one just like it from one of our Carolina Crankers, Mr. Jeff Coley.
Check out these AWESOME hand crafted A-Rigs!
Jeff cashed in on over a $1,000 Saturday on his custom made A-Rigs .
Gett’em while you can Gett’em! Contact Jeff Coley on Facebook to place your order.
Just throwing this out to anyone who has any interest in quality umbrella rigs. I don't use junk parts and they hold up to a lot of abuse. These do not tangle like the flimsy thin wire rigs. I use grade 316 0.45 stainless wire on all my rigs. I've found some better prices on blades and swivels so the prices will be coming down instead of going up. Thanks
5 wire single blade arm....$12.00
5 wire double blade arm...$15.00
7 wire double blade arm.....$25.00
7 wire triple blade arm $30.00

Tournament Time With Bass Monkey Academy!!!
Dedication is the first word that comes to mind when we arrived at Lake Park for today's Bass Monkey Academy Tournament. With temperatures in the lower 30's and rain, snow and sleet coming down, Academy members were already rigging up and tweaking tackle for the event. With numerous Big Series events and Benefit Tournaments being cancelled for inclement weather, these young anglers approached the conditions head-on with determination and a true passion for the sport of bass fishing. We took a realistic approach with today's weather making it a quick 2 hour tournament. The severe downturn in temperature took it's toll on the resident bass population in the Lake Charles pond. Instructors from the academy and LineCutterz Pro Tommy Perkins, shared their knowledge and extreme weather experience with each of our anglers. Even after everyone's best efforts, Lake Charles only gave up one finicky bass. Swimming a jig over the pond's deepest water, Robbie Pohorenche won today's tournament with 3lbs. and 4ozs. Great catch Robbie!!! We would like to thank each of our young anglers, our parents, our instructors and all of our wonderful sponsors for making this a great first year for Bass Monkey Academy. It has honestly been a pleasure seeing our young members grow and learn this season. Lisa and I feel truly blessed to have been able to work with each of you and consider each of you our family! The Academy has been embraced by an awesome group of sponsors and we want to express our thanks to each of them! Tommy Perkins, you my friend are a Rock Star! You see the potential for greatness in our young men and women and have opened doors to them with Line Cutterz Junior Division and Cal Coast Fishing. Line Cutterz, Cal Coast Fishing, and Wicked Weights have taken Bass Monkey Academy to the next level! Our thanks will never be enough to The Village of Lake Park and Mint Hill Cabinets for opening your doors and your community for classes and seminars with Bass Monkey Academy. The Academy would also like to express our thanks to The Carolina Crankers for opening your club ranks to our young ladies and gentlemen and allowing them to compete as equals! Bass Monkey would like to welcome Ty Swedick to the Academy! New members are welcome anytime and there are no joining fees for the academy. If you or your company would like to help sponsor the youth anglers of Bass Monkey Academy, please contact Lisa anytime. We would be honored to promote you and your company through Bass Monkey Academy as well as The Carolina Crankers! Everyone please have a wonderful Christmas and we will see each of you on January 9th to kick off the new year!

A Little Monkey Business with Tommy Perkins!
Bass Monkey Academy hit the ponds at Lake Park tonight for our Texas Rig and Carolina Rig class with Fishing Pro Tommy Perkins. Tommy taught the youth anglers how to rig them, when to use them and how to choose the right rig for the current situations. We had a great turnout tonight and the young Bass Monkey anglers had a great time learning to rig each setup and testing their new techniques in the pond. We would like to thank all our young anglers and their parents for joining us tonight. Bass Monkey Academy would like to send a huge thanks to Tommy Perkins for heading tonight's class. We would also like to thank the community of Lake Park for allowing our young anglers to use their ponds for our classes. Join us on October 10th at Lake Park for our class on schooling baits. All youth anglers are always welcome! Until then... keep 'em hooked!!!
Shake Me!!!
To all my 80's rock fans that are now singing out the car windows, I couldn't resist borrowing the title for tonight's class! As an instructor and more often than I admit, "older" student, our Shakey Head class with Linecutterz Pro Tommy Perkins was outstanding! Tommy shared his knowledge and techniques for finessing with shakey heads with the youth of Bass Monkey Academy. He patiently explained color choices for water types, proper line weights for each situation and techniques for slow to swift water currents. Tommy did tank demonstrations and answered several rounds of questions as Bass Monkey Academy members learned his tips and tricks for finicky bass. After his presentation, youth members grabbed Bizz Baits and screwlock shakey heads from sponsors Brian Souza and Dustin Loftin and hit the practice pool. Our youth members learned the "soft" shake necessary for multiple bait types as they watched their baits move across the pool. Bass Monkey Academy would like to send a huge thank you to Tommy Perkins for sharing your time and techniques with our young anglers! Keep check on our upcoming schedule for future classes with Tommy! We will wrap up our two part shakey head class next week and will follow up with our pitching and flipping competition. Practice, practice, practice, only one week left! Thank you Tommy, LineCutterz, our sponsors, our instructors and our young anglers for making Bass Monkey great!
Blade Class with Tommy Streater
Had a wonderful time tonight with Bass Monkey Academy! Tommy Streater shared tips and techniques with young anglers for spinnerbaits chatterbaits and buzzbaits. Bass Monkey sponsor Pete Brezden sent a special treat with some handmade "old school" rubber skirt buzzbaits and spinnerbaits and the kids had a ball! Even had a two pounder destroy one of Pete's buzzbaits during class! Thank you so much to our young anglers, instructors and all of our Bass Monkey Academy Sponsors!!!
Bass Monkey Academy's Newest Sponsors!
Big thank you to Dustin Loftin for donating 2 big bags of shaky head jig heads to our Bass Monkey Academy Youth Program! Most of you already know Dry Pond Tackle is the BEST little tackle store in town! For those who have not visited Dry Pond, stop in and check them out ! If Dustin doesn't have it, he can get anything you may be in need of .
Want to send a big thank you to Brian Souza owner of Bizz Baits! Brian donated decals as well as a couple hundred shaky head plastics. He also included a huge bag of nearly 500 Bizz Baits custom pours to our Bass Monkey Academy program! Stop in and check out Bizz Baits headquarters located next door to Dry Pond Tackle. If the doors locked, he's next door with Dustin!! Bass Monkey Academy and The Carolina Crankers would like to thank everyone for their continued support of our youth anglers.
Getting Jiggy with The Bass Monkeys
Class is in session! Hands on training began this week at Bass Monkey Academy. Wayne Snyder headed our instructors as we explained and displayed jig flipping and pitching with our youth anglers. Multiple instructors shared their knowledge and techniques with the members of the academy and worked with each young angler individually. From how to tweak a jig right out of the package to picking out the proper trailer for conditions, instructors shared years of knowledge with our youth. When it was time for pitching and flipping, the building wouldn't hold the monkeys. Class shifted outside to allow our young anglers plenty of room to develop their jig skills. Using 8 inch platforms as their "boat decks" young anglers practiced their skills with our instructors helping with technique and building their confidence. All Bass Monkey Academy members were sent home with their very own target to practice their skills for next month's flipping and pitching competition. Join Bass Monkey on August 1st for our blade baits class. Tom Streater will be our instructor for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and buzzbaits. Until then... keep 'em hooked!!!
Flipping time!!!
Bass Monkey Academy's first hands on class is this Tuesday night, July 18th! We invite all young anglers to join us as Wayne Snyder instructs our jig pitching and flipping class. What type of jig to use, strongest colors, types of trailers, when and where to throw a jig, you name it. Wayne will share years of experience and knowledge with young fishermen as he teaches proper techniques for pitching and flipping jigs. Remember, Bass Monkey Academy is a hands on class so bring your jig rod tomorrow night because our instructors will be on hand to work with each angler. We will send each youth home with a practice target so they can continue to develop their skills at home. Next month we will have a flipping and pitching competition and the top youth will take home a brand new Shimano Curado donated by Reel Determined Outdoors!!! Classes are always free and new members are welcome anytime!! Full class schedules and locations can be found at Bass Monkey Academy on Facebook and on our website http://www.bassmonkeyacademy.weebly.com For more information please contact Lisa Snyder May @ 704-226-7127
Just a Little Longer!!!
Just two more days! The very first meeting for Bass Monkey Academy is Tuesday night! The meeting starts at 7pm at 5519 Cannon Drive, Monroe NC 28110. Although we have several members on vacation this week, we are still looking for a great turnout. If you have a youth angler in your family that wants to sharpen their skills and learn the ins and outs of bass fishing, we encourage you to join us for Bass Monkey Academy! Our instructors will teach young anglers everything they need to know to hit the water with confidence. From how to choose the proper lure or soft plastic to when and where to select the proper line and equipment, we will share a wealth of knowledge through hands on training with young anglers. Our Academy is geared for the 12 to 17 year old range of anglers, however we welcome youth ages 8 and up. Many of our instructors will be on hand this Tuesday night and will share some of their experiences with the group. We will do registration and an introduction to Bass Monkey Academy this Tuesday evening. We will also be taking pictures of the youth members for the website. Bass Monkey Academy encourages members to bring up to five fishing photos of them and their best catches for the site. We ask that everyone please remember to bring a chair for the meeting. Starting with next months meeting, young anglers will be asked to bring their favorite rod and reel for the meetings. More information about Bass Monkey Academy can be found on Bass Monkey's Website http://www.bassmonkeyacademy.weebly.com or by following the link on The Carolina Crankers Website. Until then... keep 'em hooked!!!
